Given the number of digicam models being introduced in the market one is likely to get confused while narrowing down on a model. Which should be a buyer’s priority — picture quality or reliability? No doubt, a buyer would look at the specs, before deciding whether the price is worth paying.

First, find out the width the lens can cover. Is the camera able to capture that building or a whole image without your having to go back and forth? Ask for a lens that will give you the width you are looking for.

Apart from lens quality, portability and comfortable handling are also important. You need 5-6 megapixels to get a good quality print out of 4×6″. Anything close to this range (plus or minus 1 or 2 mega pixels) and the image quality is going to be similar.

The camera you select should be compatible with compact flash memory cards. Digicams once used smart media cards which are no longer in use. They have been replaced by compact flash cards with capacities of up to 16GB. Also, Smart Digital cards are available with 8GB capacity.

The compact flash drives and their software drivers are compatible with all operating systems.

Look also at the autofocus speed of a digicam; cheap models after pressing the button take time to get ready for shots. Five frames per second is a speed you can settle for. Especially if you want to take pictures of your kids who move fast, a camera with 5 frames per second is the right choice. For at least a few seconds, the Canon G7 is capable of capturing 5 frames per second, before the internal memory buffer of the camera goes off.

The aperture speed decides the light received by the image sensor through the lens. The Canon G7 model appears to have fast aperture speed. Normally the aperture and shutter speeds play a vital role in ensuring adequate balance of light is reached the image sensor.

Digital noise may affect the quality of a picture; cameras with inbuilt noise reduction capability are available. The Canon G7 comes with inbuilt noise reduction capability of up to ISO 400; this allow you to take pictures holding the camera waist high without bothering about the quality of the picture being affected.

If you want to zero in on your kid or friend on stage and get a good quality picture, then you should look for cameras with image stabilization.

You also need to check battery life, warranty and after sales service.

The Canon G7 fulfils all the above requirements, satisfactorily.

To begin let’s take a moment to check out some key features of this amazing camera. Don’t worry – I won’t bore you to death with all that stuff but still – the 10 megapixel DX CCD is the first thing that comes in sight when checking out the huge specification table of Nikon D40x.

Another thing that comes new perhaps will be the pretty expanded viewfinder with a magnification of x0.8 and some nice 95% view of the image you are trying to take picture of. That’s nice really but it’s just the beginning.

Basically there is some kind of a guru rule that says that every photo camera review need to say about the resolution of the image you can take with the photo camera so here it is – maximum resolution of 3872×2592 when taking pictures in 10 megapixels mode. Yes, it was not that hard - but the question is – is this resolution really that important? Sure – it is but check out what comes next.

The quality of the image you shoot can go high in the sky to a RAW data image with 12-bit compression or maybe some nice JPEG compression if you prefer. Don’t worry – you have the ability to use some huge SD cards when you need more memory for the RAW data. The RGB settings are pretty adjustable too – you can even set them to Adobe RGB which will surely add for you some nice support when after editing the image.

The lens mount will bring a smile on your face when you see that it has these nice AF (auto-focus) contacts. And let’s face it – even the most experienced photographer will need them sooner or later.

AF-S and AF-I lens are fully supported. That means that everything will be up and running for you when you are using them - starting with the AF, 3D Color Matrix Metering II and other things like that cool exposure meter for example. With other lens like Micro-Nikkor things may not be as pretty as with the AF-S and AF-I lens but still some nice support will be available to you. However IX Nikkor is not supported.

Now prepare yourself for some diving as we move on to the auto-focus. Let’s start with that three area TTL phase detection and see what it is all about. Phase detection is a feature of the auto-focus and it simply compares images. These images are in fact two coming from the opposite sides of the camera and then a range finder is created in the AF sensor. This is done in order for the distance to the objects to be measured. The new thing here however is the two-dimensional intensity patterns. In Nikon D40x there is pair of sensors orientated in 90◦. This helps for the 2D measuring and catching where the objects really are in the distance and focusing the lens properly. Sometimes if the light is not enough an infrared light is used in order for some additional passive data to be collected that will help your AF sensor focus your lens better. You will see that you have a white light assistant here too. Bottom line here will be that – yes, you don’t need to know about all that stuff in such details but try not to cover the infrared light/white light emitter with your fingers as you shoot.

Next AF mode is about area focusing and is called with the pretty complicated name Multi-CAM530. This together with the range detection is pretty much all about the AF of this photo camera but take in account that it is not about the AF specification but it is you. These AF capabilities are there to be used wilily. Don’t think that because they are AF modes they are not important – quite the opposite – use them properly and they will pretty much bring new dimensions to your work.

AF comes with white light assistance and this is another pretty interesting topic to be discussed. There is also an ability for one of three areas to be selected for you and one nice capability is also there – you don’t need to keep the shutter button half-way pressed if you need to focus all the time – just use the AE-L/AF-L locking mode to insure constant focusing.

With its 420 segment RGB sensor the spot and center-weighted metering are not pretty much all about the metering capabilities of this photo camera. There is also a 3D color matrix metering II which I told you about earlier in this article. To let you know something more about it I will tell you that there is a database in this metering mode that provide you with data about scenes that are difficult to be metered. Your photo camera will use that data in this mode to help you focus and stabilize the image better.

For the white balance there are not many new things to be said. There is a mode in which you will be able to pick a preset of the white balance of a photo but this will surely not be something new to you. However you will absolutely enjoy the fine tuning if the WB as it will be of much help to you.

The shutter speed is 30 seconds to 1/4000 second. Nothing too fancy but I think that it will cover all your needs.

The ISO sensitivity in this photo camera goes pretty high up to 3200. I think that I don’t need to tell you more about it and all the stuff coming with it because you will find another article in my blog that will pretty much cover the idea for you.

If you have reached the point where you are ready to begin adding custom lenses and accessories to your photographic armory, then you’ll need a digital camera body that is ready to work as hard as you do. The Nikon D70 is an ideal choice.

It is affordable and is compatible with a number of different types and styles of lenses. The software is easy to use and the in-camera editing features let you decide which pictures stay and which ones go while you are in the middle of a shoot.

The Nikon D70 digital SLR camera is one of the most popular digital camera body types because the accessories you can add really increases the usability of the camera.

You can custom-build and supply your own small arsenal of lenses and other accessories by purchasing compatible products online and matching them up with your camera to give it more flexibility than complete packages. If you don’t know too much about digital cameras, you should buy a full set first.

If you’re interested in the D70 digital SLR from Nikon, be prepared to spend around $900 for the body of the camera. After that, you can expect to spend quite a bit more money to add the lens you want, as well as any other accessories to go with it such as a camera bag or memory stick.

The expensive price of the body might seem costly to some that are used to inferior products, but the Nikon D70 digital camera body is a steal if you’re into digital photography and have a passion for it.
Some of the technical features of this camera include:
* 6.1 million effective pixels
* USB mass storage
* Built-in Speedlight flash
* Rapid shutter speed
* Several auto shooting modes, including landscape and close-up
* Built-in lighting system and a 3D Color Matrix meter

If the D70 digital camera body is a lot less expensive than some of the other products that your local dealer may be trying to sell you, make sure you talk to some other photographers. You’ll quickly find that the value of the D70 is real.

You will get high-quality performance for a lower price than other manufacturers are willing to give. If you want to create professional-looking photographs with a great camera, you must consider the Nikon D70.

If you are serious about outfitting your own camera body, then check the product specs for the Nikon D70 at http://nikonimaging.com. As you compare with other digital SLR camera bodies that are on the market, you will find that the Nikon stands way ahead of everyone else’s product.

If want to put together a camera bag that will be as versatile as you are creative, then don’t settle for anything less than the D70.

Devastating its predecessor the Nikon D50 Digital SLR camera, the all new compact and affordable point-and-shoot Nikon D40 Digital SLR camera comes at a significantly lower price. With a subtly different set of features Nikon has trimmed some of the ‘less important features and have included a range of new features including the custom Auto ISO feature available on the Nikon D80 Digital SLR cameras.

Nikon appears to have concentrated on what makes a good camera. A solid viewfinder,a short shutter lag, and an exceptionally short viewfinder blackout. On the negative side the Nikon D40 Digital SLR camera does not have an internal focus drive motor and as a result no mechanical focus drive pin. Rather it has CPU contacts allowing Auto Focus only with AF-S and AF-I lenses which have built-in focus motors. This means the Nikon ’standard’ lenses the Nikkor 50 mm F1.8D and the F1.4D will be manual focus only on the Nikon D40 Digital SLR camera.

The difference in the lens mount of the Nikon D40 Digital SLR camera and the Nikon D80 Digital SLR camera is the mechanical focus drive pin at about the 7 o’clock position on the mount of the Nikon D80 Digital SLR camera.

I personally purchased the Nikon D40 Digital SLR camera and my family and I have been taking pictures non stop since purchasing it in January 2007. I highly recommend the Nikon D40 Digital SLR camera for an entry level professional grade camera. I also would suggest purchasing a large memory chip I purchased a 4GB chip for under 100 dollars at Futureshop and it held over 1600 photos at the highest resolution the camera offers.

Hats off to Nikon, for delivering a solid, affordable digital camera with multitude of features and resisting the temptation to enter the chase for more mega pixels.

Yesterday I bought my third digital camera, the Casio Exilim EX-Z750. I needed a pocketable camera as the Sony DSC-F717 and the Nikon D70 are a bit large to carry around in certain situations. At least, that’s how I spun it to my wife.

I thought I’d post a few thoughts I have on the camera here. First of all the size is striking. So much funtionality in such a small package, Casio are masters at this sort of thing. I am also amazed at the battery life from such a teenie battery, again kudos to Casio. There enough Scene modes included in this digicam to cover any situation possible, possibly too many modes. The firmware in this digicam is the best I have seen, ever. I can even tell this camera which settings I want it to remember after I power off the camera, and which to set back to default. I can’t tell you how many times I have ruined a shot because my white-balance was set to some screwy setting. But I like it remembering my ISO and flash setting. Love it.

Where I see the camera falling down is in two areas. The flash is definitely under-powered. Luckily I rarely use flash, I prefer natural light with correct white-balance. Secondly, the CCD and metering combination often produce blown-out highlights. The live histogram helps here; you can dial in some EV compensation if you wish, but too many of my shots are having this problem. I can live with it in an ulta-compact though.

All-in-all, I love my little Casio EX-Z750. It’s fast, feature packed, and has a very high toy factor to it!

The Nikon Coolpix L6 is Nikon’s latest entry in their line of Coolpix digital cameras. It features low price, long battery life and simple controls that make it easy for anyone to shoot good digital pictures.

Capsule Review: Nikon Coolpix L6

The Nikon Coolpix L6 packs in great features for the low price. Long battery life, simple controls and a bright 2.5” LCD screen make this a great camera for the casual shutterbug or as a first digital camera. Nikon promises 1,000 pictures on one pair of lithium AA batteries (or 400 on alkalines), and offers easy-shot features like Face Priority, D-lighting and In Camera Red-Eye Protection to appeal to entry level users. Easy to find at less than $150 USD, the Nikon Coolpix L6 gives you the features that most new users want in a digital camera – and truly impressive battery life.

Summary

The Nikon Coolpix L6 is Nikon’s latest entry in their line of Coolpix digital cameras. It features low price, long battery life and simple controls that make it easy for anyone to shoot good digital pictures. The Coolpix L6 is lightweight, easy to use and perfect for the entry level shutterbug who wants a reliable camera that’s easy to use and offers good picture quality. Nikon has aimed the camera squarely at the young and young-at-heart crowd with its advertising, styling and user friendly features that make the Coolpix line popular.

Highlighted Features – Long Battery Life

By far the most impressive feature of the Coolpix L6 is the record-breaking long battery life. Nikon has partnered with Energizer (yes, the company with the bunny) to research and engineer energy saving features that conserve battery life. Their innovations give this camera a very impressive 1,000 shots per set of AA lithium Energizer batteries – and just to get you started, they include a set of Energizer lithium batteries. With most other cameras in any price range averaging 200-300 shots of battery life, Nikon has good reason to wave the flag about their performance in this area.

As the mother who missed the shot of her daughter being handed her sheepskin because I was changing the batteries on my digital camera, this is a feature I truly appreciate. Even with alkaline batteries, you’ll get about 400 shots out of the Coolpix L6 before you have to change the batteries.

Easy Controls

Nikon bills the Coolpix L-series of cameras as ‘memories made easy’, and the L6 delivers on that promise. The camera does away with complex controls and gives you features that make it easy to take high quality pictures with very little experience. This is not the camera for the experienced shutterbug who wants total control over every technical aspect – but it doesn’t pretend to be. This is the camera for my mother, who has a professional quality digital that she routinely hands to the nearest grandchild at every opportunity because she has no idea how to set the lens speed, adjust the flash or any of the other myriad settings it offers.

With the Coolpix L6, you really can just point and shoot. If you want more control, though, there are fifteen ‘scene’ settings that allow you to choose from settings with easy to understand names like daylight, low light or portrait. You can choose to add fun extras like color effects,

Image Correction Features

The Nikon Coolpix L6 also offers three in camera innovations that let even inexperienced picture takers eliminate common picture problems. In camera red eye protection automatically corrects the infamous red-eye effect when taking flash pictures. The Face Priority mode will automatically recognize facial features when taking portrait shots and enhance the facial area of subjects so that you don’t get out of focus faces. And the D-light detection will automatically correct under and over exposed shots by making a copy of the photo and adding in detail to only the out of balance areas of the photo.

Super Cool Coolpix Features

The Coolpix L6 also offers two special features that help the amateur photo buff get the most out of a digital camera. The Best Shot Selector will automatically select and save the sharpest image from a series of up to ten pictures taken in sequence. And if you’ve ever ended up with a blurred, out of focus memory of a special moment, you’ll really appreciate the Blur Warning, which will let you know when a photo you’ve shot is out of focus so that you can retake the shot before leaving the scene.

Image Quality

The Nikon Coolpix L6 offers great image quality for even the newest of users. With 6.0 megapixel capability and a 3x Niktor Zoom lens, the L6 gives users the ability to take a wide range of photos from tight close-ups and full panoramic scenery shots. Nikon technology puts high quality digital images within the range of anyone who can point and shoot.

Other Coolpix L6 Features

- Lightweight and compact, easy to hold and shoot. The L6 is slim and comfortable to hold, with all the controls on the right hand side of the camera, making it possible to take one-handed shots. It weighs in at just 4.4 ounces without the battery or SD memory card. The dimensions (3.6 x 2.4 x 1.0 inches) make the Coolpix L6 a slim pocket-size camera.

- Menu available in choice of 20 languages

- USB capability to transfer pictures to your PC for editing and sending in email.

- In camera editing and fun effects let you trim and frame pictures without connecting to the PC

- Movie mode lets you record at up to 15 frames per second

- 23 MB internal memory, supports SD memory card for more storage capability

- Built in flash with four modes for best flash selection

- 2.5” super bright LCD monitor for excellent picture viewing

Slideshow capability for playback of images

Digital camera reviews are abundant not just online but also in the newspapers, magazines and even TV shows. We often wonder why most digital camera reviews always praise all the digital camera out in the market, that’s why we end up getting confused on which product to buy or get our loved ones. ]

Here’s one thing you should never trust regarding digital camera reviews - never trust press releases or reviews that are directly from the manufacturer or advertising office that is directly connected with producer of the digital camera. Why?! Well because these digital camera reviews are never too truthful, or they just give out the good points about their products. I mean, what would you expect, supposing you own your own line of digital cameras and to boost your sales, you release digital camera reviews about your products. Of course you wouldn’t point out the bad things or the glitches of your product in your digital camera reviews, because that way you will never be able to shoot up your sales. Press releases or digital camera reviews from manufacturer are always half-truths. Haven’t you had any experience with that?! I mean, that just doesn’t go for digital camera, remember that brush-blower thingy that you bought over the internet that says it would work tremendously for your hair, but ended not working for your hair after all. Press releases are press releases, meaning that they are aimed to get people to buy the product or to give the product a better name.

On more thing that you can never fully trust are home shopping networks and advertisements. As much as press releases, they pretty much pose the same claims about their products. But hey, don’t trust me, you can always get them and return them after proving to yourself that it doesn’t work. Never mind the time and effort that you’ve wasted, you chose to listen to a half-truth digital camera review, that’s what you get for that.

The best digital camera reviews available are those found in specialty magazines (computer based and technical magazines), special websites catering to techie stuff and unofficial digital camera reviews. Why?! Well because! Because these digital camera reviews are always truthful. These reviewers and critics are never afraid to list down the good as much as the bad points of digital cameras. These digital camera reviews usually points out the difference between the products that a certain manufacturer has released and how it is worse or better than the previous one. These reviewers and critics are also knowledgeable in their craft, so its say to safe to say that they know what they are talking about when it comes to digital camera reviews. One more thing, most of the time, these digital camera reviews are actual first hand experience with the product itself and not just some advertising agent asked to come up with flowery words to capture you and your wallet.

Another best source for a digital camera review is one that you can write yourself. And how can you do that?! Of course, you first need to buy your own digital camera, try it out and compare everything that you do with it to the things that it claims to be. (be careful to read the specs, options and features that you need to try out, be on the lookout for words such as weatherproof, meaning that they are splash resistant as to waterproof that are water resistant. You don’t want to get your newly bought weatherproof camera wet, just to prove to yourself that the things they claim are not true). After doing so, then you can write your own digital camera review or reviews, depending on how many things you’ve learned from your digital camera. Be sure to indicate that your review is an on-hand experience with the product and not just some wild guess.

The most honest digital camera reviews are the best reviews you can look for and trust. Anyway, you can always call customer center or return your digital camera if they don’t live up to their claims.

A digital camera is a device use to capture pictures without the use of films. Unlike the conventional camera, the digital camera does not rely on mechanical and chemical processes. It has a built in computer and records the images it captures in an electronic form. Having and operating one does not even require the use of electricity.

Since the images that a digital camera captures is in electronic form, it is a language recognized by computers. This language is called pixels, tiny colored dots represented by ones and zeros that make up the picture that you just took. Just like any conventional cameras, a digital camera is furnished with a series of lenses that focus the light and creates the image that you want to capture. The difference here is then; a conventional camera focuses its light on a film while a digital camera focuses the light into a semiconductor device that electronically records the light. Remember the built in computer, it comes in here and breaks this information to digital data resulting to all the features of the digital camera.

Another feature of the digital camera is that it has a sensor that converts light into electrical charges. A charge coupled device or CCD is an image sensor that is found in a digital camera. While other low-end digital camera use complementary metal oxide semiconductor or CMOS as an image device, it can still become better and more famous in the future but most engineers are do not believe that it can replace the CCD for higher-end digital cameras.

A collection of tiny diodes, the CCD gathers electrons when they are struck by photons or the light particles. Each diode or photosite is sensitive to light, meaning that the brighter the light, the number of the electrons gathering will be larger

The price of a digital camera nowadays have been depreciating, one of the main reasons of this is because of the introduction of CMOS image sensors, this is because CMOS sensors are less expensive and are easier to manufacture than CCD sensors. A CCD and CMOS sensor works the same way at first, by converting the light electrical charges into photosites. Simply putting it, is to think that a digital camera works in such a way as thinking that the millions of tiny solar cells, each of which forms a part of the whole image. Both CCD and CMOS do this task using different methods.

When shopping for the best digital camera, take note of these key features.

Image quality. Check the resolution of the camera. The higher the resolution, the more thou will be able to enlarge your picture without the grainy or the out-of-focus effect that we all want to avoid.

Lens. Choose a digital camera with better digital zoom. The digital zoom of the camera will enable you take the pixels from the image sensor and incorporate them to make an image.
Power. Always opt for rechargeable batteries, they can always come in handy, plus you don’t waste as much money on the disposable ones.

Options. So you can brag to your friends how good a photographer or artist you are. Or choose the one that gives options that best cater to your lifestyle, so you won’t ever whine how you never get the right pictures.

Memory. If you’re a photo freak, be sure that you have enough memory in your camera to take all the wacky, freaky, funny and just about any photo you can. Think 512MB if you’re a photo junkie and takes pictures of just about anything.

Computer Interface. Always make sure that it is compatible with your PC, laptop, palmtop or whatever your local picture printer software is, you don’t want to go running around the whole state or the country looking for a computer that’s compatible with your digital camera, wont you?!

Physical. If you are going to be bringing it everywhere, choose a handy and portable digital camera. This way, it won’t always feel as heavy and bulky as those cameras that you see professional photographers are always dragging on their neck. Don’t they ever get tired of that?!

These are just the basic things you have to look for in a digital camera when you buy one. A digital camera is so great that it is quickly replacing all conventional cameras in the market, with all its technology and portability, truly the digital camera is the future of cameras.
